What is the Musical all about?
Avenue Q is the story of Princeton (Rivera), a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbors seem nice. There’s Brian (Everly) the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fianceé Christmas Eve (Dy); Nicky (Trinidad) the good-hearted slacker and his roommate Rod (Rivera) — a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster (Trinidad); and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate (Alejandro). And would you believe the building’s superintendent is Gary Coleman (Seguerra)?!? (Yes, that Gary Coleman.) Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life. From Avenue Q on Broadway

The Show
It was A M A Z I N G!
I’m not really a huge fan of the musical, although I enjoy listening to a LOT of the songs. Who wouldn’t, they’re so catchy and fun. I’m guilty of downloading boots so I was really excited to finally see the show. I was fully prepared for whatever crazy antics the show had in store: foul-mouthed puppets having sex, nudity, racism and more. I remember there’s this “issue” that Wicked was robbed during the Tonys blah blah but I think Avenue Q deserved the award for Best Musical. Hooray.
Where to start… the actors! They were a great cast. I never thought Rachel Alejandro could do a much much much better job than D’Abruzzo as Kate Monster/Lucy the Slut. She hit the notes beautifully, compared to Stephanie D’Abruzzo’s sometimes-annoying-and-too-pitchy voice. Felix Rivera as Princeton/Rod, in my opinion, had the most difficult role in the entire show but he pulled it off! I wanted to throw him a new shirt (gray shirts crave sweat) but it’s a good thing he wore a new one during Act 2. Oooh and I especially loved his Rod. Too cute.
Frenchie Dy was also cute!! When I heard she was going to play Christmas Eve I was like, wuhaaaat but she was simply fabulous. I loved her wedding dress, it’s so Barbie bride kuno. Haha. Aiza Seguerra was also very convincing as Gary Coleman. And Joel Trinidad as Nicky/Trekkie Monster was, without a doubt, brilliant. “The Internet is for Porn” ftw. As for Rycharde Everly’s Brian… hmmm… I’m going to watch Ang Cute ng Ina Mo because my sister says he’s in it.

The set was simple but it truly served its PURPOSE (!!), with the TV set and the “Fantasies Come True” bed!!! The puppets were soooo cute. They were selling t-shirts, programs, pins and posters in the lobby but I wanted to buy a PUPPET!!! Why couldn’t they sell puppets!??!! Not a naked puppet, but a cute fluffy puppet like Trekkie Monster (or not).
Now here’s the negative part… WHY ARE THE TICKETS SO EXPENSIVE?!? I want to watch it again! Oh well, at least we got free bottles of water (or Gatorade something) and we had our 5 seconds of fame when they took videos and photos of the people going inside the theater. We were hiding behind the *~local celebs~*.
The End!
