Bagmaking Part III

My groupmates chose my recycled denim jeans bag as the product for our marketing plan. I can tell they were excited about having customized bags (well, except the two guys in our group) and I was pretty excited too. I haven’t sewn anything in weeks. That is, until their old jeans started pouring in.

Mom's sewing machine
My mom’s 30+ year old Singer sewing machine. I stared at it more than the computer screen this week. What a miracle.

For the past few days, with the exception of Saturday of course, I’ve done nothing but cut and sew ridiculously thick denim jeans and poke thread through needles. I need to make two presentable denim bags, one for girls and one for guys for our presentation and so far I’m only partially done with the GUY bag. I haven’t looked for good fabrics for lining yet and blah blah blah.

Here are two of the three bags I’ve worked on so far and more photos on Flickr:

Carlos Bag
The Carlos Bag, before I snipped off the zipper and before I sewed on the straps. It’s a body bag for guys but it girly!! :[ Named after my groupmate who owns the jeans I destroyed.

Carlos Bag 2
Part 2. I snipped of the front part of the jeans and added a khaki scrap in hopes of making the bag more butch and macho and manly. Err. Yeah. But I failed, so I really have to work on the flaps.

Mia Bag
The Mia Bag. Named after my groupmate who owns the jeans, again. :] It’s corny, naming the bags after the jeans owner but anyhoo… She wanted a handbag type of bag so this was what I came up with. It looks plain, but my groupmates will be the one to decorate/personalize their own bags. I just do the dirty sewing part. Heh.

We haven’t decided on our company name and the brand name of the bags, but I’ve thought up of a slogan that hopefully they’ll agree to use. It’s inspired by one of the songs from Rocky Horrror Picture Show. I’ll get to that later! :] More bag updates soon.
