Jem and the Holograms!

jem is love!
Heeheehee.

I’ve been busy with school. And yep, that’s it.

Anyhoo, my teacher in Philosophy (Philo of Person) asked us to pick a character from either TV shows, movies, animation or books etc that we identify ourselves with. Or something of that sort. I forgot. Honest. :big: I got my thinking cap on and went from Dora the Explorer to Lucy van Pelt to Little Lulu. And finally I thought of… JEM! Ok, so I don’t look like Jem and I don’t want to be Jem… but hey! It’s JEM! She has her own rock band! She has an electronic fairy godmother thingie! Plus she has a pair of ultracool magic earrings! Way cool.

screenshot of jem layoutI love Jem and the Holograms since… I don’t know when. I even made a layout for my website a few years ago. And here’s a precious screenshot to prove it. I still have that layout in one of my geocities accounts and I’m thankful that I saved it. I used Photoshop’s Cut Out feature to bits in the layout because all the images I found on the internet were too grainy and pixel-ly. Oh, I know Jem and the Hologram is too shockingly pink and let’s face it, overlysuper 80s. But I love it!

I also remembered a Jem and the Holograms-type of cartoon called Maxie’s World (Maxie, Maxie, her own TV show!) which a local channel used to show. The lead, Maxie, is still Barbie-like like Jem, but the difference is that the pink-haired diva became a blonde talkshow host. Jem’s better because she has magic!!!!!!! She simply touches her sparkly star earring and say “Showtime, Synergy” and poof! She becomes Jerica!! Double lives, double boyfriends! How cheesy can you get?

Ohhh and I used to have a Pizzazz doll too! I *think* I bought it in Uniwide. She’s so ugly and conceited and I think the only reason why I bought her was because it was the only doll available. Oh well, it came with a free cassette tape containing the intro song and The Misfit’s Outta My Way. Sigh. I think I threw the doll and the tape a few years ago while cleaning up our room.

I want the Jem dvd!! :grr: For more Jem obsessions of mine, visit the guestbook I designed for my now-dead WITCH fansite.

Boredom Killer #2: Make a bag

I made a denim bag out of my old jeans. I got inspired by one of the image pools of DIY bags at Flickr. The bag doesn’t have lining and straps in it yet when I took the pictures but it’s currently being machine-sewn by my mom. :) I know how to use the sewing machine but I’m not very good at it yet.

I basically came up with the not-so-original design and started sewing the denim pieces together. When I was done with the bag itself, it was simply a mess! My running stitch looks like crap. And so my mom (happy mother’s day!) offered ever so kindly to “strengthen” the bag by sewing it on the machine. Here are three pictures of the unfinished bag.

I used a blue pen for making marks. Stupid.

The bag looks big because it is big! I have huge waist, duh. It’s a school bag, anyway. I plan to put more stuff on the outside as it looks plain as ever. It’s my first attempt to complete a homemade bag! I tried to make one from a cotton t-shirt but ehh.. It ended up looking like a mop. Trapo. :)

EDIT I finished the bag like more than a month ago and I’m only posting pictures today!
