Hotspots #2

Dewey is itching like crazy again. And I discovered last night that he has hotspots AGAIN. They’re smaller this time and it’s only on one side of his ear, but if he continues to scratch it, it’ll end up much worse than the first time. I immediately cut the fur surrounding the wound and cleaned it with antiseptic diluted with water. I wanted to put shoes or socks or whatever to make him stop scratching his ear. This morning, at the ungodly hour of 7 AM, I called up the village vet for consultation.

I don’t know if it’s because of the dog shampoo we use, hidden fleas in his body or the thousands and thousands of ants roaming all over our house. The village vet prescribed antibiotics and something else (couldn’t read her handwriting) for the itching. She also said to apply agua oxinada and then betadine on the wound. But I know these things won’t stop Dewey from scratching the same spot, so I asked if they sell Elizabethan collars but she said I can make one by using x-ray film.

Without relying on any how-to’s instructions, I made this:

Makeshift Collar
A makeshift Elizabethan collar made from x-ray film

It looks pathetic. I should have downloaded instructions or something on the internet. I made the collar out of my x-rays from the annual physical examination in school. :) We’re going to take x-rays again in January, so might as well put the old ones to use!

Upset Dog
Dewey did not like it at all.

We removed it after a few minutes because he looked depressed. I still want to find a pet store that sells the collars so we can control his itching better. Sigh.

In other news, I passed the comprehensive exam! And I’m playing Neopets again! Click the link to make me rich!! Oh, and Merry Christmas to everyone!

**EDIT: Bought collar at Tiendesitas. Cuteness.

Internet Explorer 7

Makes everyday tasks easier- Internet Explorer 7 provides improved navigation through tabbed browsing, web search right from the toolbar, advanced printing, easy discovery, reading and subscription to RSS feeds, and much more.

Dynamic security protection- Internet Explorer 7 provides security through a robust new architecture, security features that help defend against malicious software (also known as malware), and new ways to better protect against the theft of personal data from fraudulent websites, a practice known as phishing.

Improved platform and manageability- Internet Explorer 7 has improved support for cascading style sheets, a rich RSS feeds platform, and robust tools for deploying and managing Internet Explorer 7 in large enterprise environments.

Microsoft quickly catched up to the popularity of Firefox, and you have to try it for yourself if it’s better. It has a sleeker design, tabbed browsing and added shortcuts for taking screenshots of pages (unnecessary, in my opinion, since you can just hit Print Screen) and exporting to Excel. I haven’t tried any of the add-ons since most of the add-ons need to be paid for. Shocking.

Before you download IE 7, your copy of Windows is verified if it’s genuine or not. It’s a good think ours is the real thing. :)

The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music program Last Friday, my sisters and I, together with our mom, watched REP’s production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Generally, it was alright. It’s a bit unfair that I was comparing it to the film. But you really can’t help compare the flow of the film you grew up with to the stage production. I didn’t like the sequence of the songs, “My Favorite Things” in the convent?!? Apparently, I didn’t do my research on the stage version of The Sound of Music.

Arts and crafts

Arts and Crafts
So I bought a silkscreen frame, a squeegee and black textile paint. Experimenting yet again, as if I have the time. After the term ends, when finals are through and all projects submitted (hopefully) and course cards are given out, I still have to worry about the written comprehensive exam for MFI. :o
